Yobe State Government reached a significant milestone by signing an agreement with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to implement a new minimum wage of N70,000.
This agreement marks a crucial step towards enhancing the financial well-being of workers across the state, with payments set to begin in December.
The Secretary to the State Government, Baba Mallam Wali, represented the government in the negotiations, while Comrade Muktar Musa Tarbutu, the NLC Chairman for Yobe State Council, signed on behalf of the labor union.
The new wage structure is designed to benefit employees at all levels, including pensioners and those on special salary structures.
However, as Wali noted, "Consultations are still ongoing between the government and organized labour regarding the position of local government employees, as their payment schedule has not been clearly outlined."
This development follows the Yobe State government's prior approval of the wage increase, which was announced last Saturday.
The state government has urged civil servants to reciprocate this gesture by demonstrating commitment, discipline, and dedication to their responsibilities. "We expect our civil servants to adhere to the ethics of civil service," emphasized Wali.
