Yahaya Bello Turned back Because He came in a Convoy with a Sitting Governor - EFCC source says

The former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, attempted to visit the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), but was turned away due to arriving in a convoy that included a sitting governor.

This action was deemed a breach of the commission's protocols. An anonymous source within the EFCC revealed that the Chairman of the Commission rejected Bello's method of surrender. "Upon realizing that Bello came with the governor and some dignitaries, the Executive Chairman directed that no official should attend to him. His manner of coming to EFCC was a breach of our protocol," the source stated.

The EFCC emphasized that all individuals, regardless of their status, must adhere to the established procedures when responding to an invitation. "No Nigerian, no matter how highly placed, is expected to come for an invitation in a convoy of vehicles and with a sitting governor," the source added.

The commission also expressed displeasure over the pre-emptive media propaganda by Bello’s team, which had created false impressions about his surrender.

On Wednesday, Bello's media team released a statement on his X handle announcing he had honored the EFCC invitation months after he was declared wanted for misappropriation of state funds amounting to N80 billion. However, the EFCC later clarified in a statement that Bello was not in their custody and remains a wanted person.
