Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello is set to be arraigned today by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the federal high court in Abuja.
This marks the second time in as many days that Bello will face legal proceedings, underscoring the EFCC's determination to address financial misconduct.
Bello, who has been charged with 19 counts of alleged money laundering, previously appeared before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory on November 27, where he faced 16 counts related to an alleged breach of trust.
Despite pleading not guilty to these charges, the EFCC has urged the court not to grant him bail, insisting that he should remain in custody until December 10, when a ruling on his bail application is expected.
The arraignment, initially scheduled for January 27 next year, was expedited due to Bello's presence before the anti-graft agency.
According to sources, "the hearing notice for the arraignment had already been served on the legal team of the former governor and that of the EFCC to ensure a hitch-free arraignment."
Justice Emeka Nwite will preside over today's proceedings, which are being closely watched both within Nigeria and internationally.
