Minister Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike presented 50 brand new operational vehicles to various security agencies.
This initiative, part of the FCT's budgetary provisions, aims to strengthen efforts against insecurity and follows an earlier distribution of 50 vehicles, bringing the total to 100.
During the presentation ceremony, Minister Wike emphasized the importance of proactive security measures, stating, "We must not give space, we must not allow the criminals to strike before we go in. We have to take the war to them, let them know that we are serious." He urged the security agencies to utilize the vehicles effectively to protect lives and property across Abuja and its satellite towns.
The Minister also highlighted ongoing infrastructure developments, including the construction of 12 new police divisions across the six Area Councils of the FCT.
These divisions are expected to be completed and operational by April next year, further bolstering the region's security framework.
In addition to security enhancements, Minister Wike addressed recent accusations of land grabbing against the FCT Administration.
He reaffirmed the administration's commitment to rectifying anomalies in land administration, declaring, "Let me use this opportunity to tell Nigerians and the residents of the FCT that we are not afraid of blackmail... What is wrong is wrong. No amount of blackmail can stop us."
Wike also issued a stern warning to ground rent and land tax defaulters, indicating that the government would not hesitate to revoke land titles if necessary.
He stressed the need for revenue to support infrastructure development and staff salaries, noting that federal allocations alone are insufficient.
