Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has expressed his unfamiliarity with the current challenging phase his team is experiencing.
Following a major 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola acknowledged the unusual situation of losing five consecutive games across all competitions. This marks the first time since November 2022 that City has suffered a home Premier League loss.
Reflecting on this difficult period, Guardiola stated, "In eight years we have never lived this kind of situation. Now we have to live it and break it by winning the next games, especially the next one."
Despite the setbacks, he remains confident in his squad's ability to rebound, emphasizing the importance of standing together and facing the challenges head-on. "We will be back. We will do it," he assured.
The recent loss to Spurs highlighted defensive fragility, as City conceded four goals from just nine attempts, despite maintaining 58 percent possession and generating 23 shots. Guardiola noted the team's struggle in handling transitions and duels, areas typically managed well by his side.
As City prepares for their upcoming UEFA Champions League match against Feyenoord and a crucial Premier League clash with Liverpool, Guardiola stressed the need for resilience and unity. He remarked, "There are no fairytales in life and sport; sometimes you have to live through these situations. You have to accept it. You can’t blame each other, stay together, continue to do what we have done."
