The residents of Di-Nyanvoh and Yaggai communities in Taraba datate are raising their voices against what they describe as abandonment by the state government.
The absence of a critical access bridge has left these communities isolated, particularly during the rainy season when rivers swell and become impassable.
The lack of this essential infrastructure has severely hindered the movement of people and goods, cutting off access to vital services such as healthcare, education, and markets.
"Our major problem in this community is the lack of an access bridge to the nearby Yaggai community," lamented Yaro Danladi, a local resident.
He emphasized that the situation not only affects the transportation of goods to Jalingo’s main market but also forces children to trek long distances to school.
Cicilia Adamu, another resident, shared harrowing stories of children being swept away by the river while attempting to reach their schools. She urged the government to intervene urgently to prevent further tragedies.
The communities have repeatedly appealed to both the Jalingo local government chairman and the state government to construct the much-needed bridge, which they believe would significantly improve their quality of life and economic prospects.
The frustration among residents is palpable, as they recall unfulfilled promises made by politicians during election campaigns. With the 2027 general election on the horizon, the call for action grows louder.
