Wait for 2027 Elections if Dissatisfied with Tinubu's Government - FG to Critics

Following the inaugural National Council of State meeting under President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Government has advised critics of the current administration to wait until the 2027 elections if they are dissatisfied.

This statement was made by the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake.

The meeting, which lasted over three hours, was attended by notable figures including former Heads of State Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar, while former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida joined virtually.

The council discussed various state matters, including the recent #Endbadgovernance protest.

Addressing the media, Alake described the protest as "a movement to effect a change of regime by force," which he stated was resisted.

He emphasized that any change in government should occur through democratic means. "If anybody is not satisfied with the government, or the current administration, there is always an election coming, so you wait for the election and cast your vote," Alake said.

He further reassured Nigerians of the readiness of security agencies to protect the country's democracy and territorial integrity.

"Any change of government has to be through the ballot and not through the barrel of the gun, or through insurrection or through any other unconstitutional means," Alake affirmed.

The minister also highlighted that the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, presented a report on the protest to the council, detailing the events before, during, and after the demonstration.

The council expressed gratitude to Nigerians for resisting what they termed an unconstitutional attempt to change the government.
