Vice President Kashim Shettima presided over the final National Economic Council (NEC) meeting of the year at the State House in Abuja.
The meeting, which commenced at 11:30 am, gathered a significant number of governors, including those from Cross River, Imo, and Gombe states, while some states were represented by their deputies.
A key agenda item was the discussion on state police recommendations, an issue that gained prominence after three states failed to submit their proposals during the November NEC meeting.
This topic is expected to be a focal point of today's discussions as the council seeks to address security challenges across the nation.
In addition to security matters, the meeting featured presentations from members of President Bola Tinubu's economic team.
These presentations focused on the tax reform bill and other economic priorities for the 2025 fiscal year. "The tax reform bill is crucial for our economic stability and growth," a member of the economic team emphasized during the session.
Several states have already taken proactive steps by submitting their budgetary proposals to their respective state assemblies ahead of the new fiscal year. This forward-thinking approach is seen as essential for aligning state budgets with national economic strategies.
