VMAs 2024: Winners Confirmed as Burna Boy, Ayra Starr Lose Out

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, held on September 11 at Long Island's UBS Arena, was a night filled with memorable performances and major wins.

Hosted by Megan Thee Stallion, who also performed, the event saw a star-studded lineup including Sabrina Carpenter, Katy Perry, Chappell Roan, Eminem, Karol G, and Glorilla.

Taylor Swift emerged as one of the biggest winners of the night, taking home seven awards, including the prestigious "Video of the Year" for her collaboration with Post Malone on "Fortnight."

This win also marked a record-breaking moment for Swift, who now ties with Beyoncé as the all-time top VMAs winner. Swift's acceptance speech included a heartfelt shoutout to her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, saying, "Everything this man touches turns to happiness and fun and magic."

Sabrina Carpenter, who has had a phenomenal summer with her disco-pop hit "Espresso," won "Song of the Year," marking her first moon person trophy. In the K-pop category, Lisa from BLACKPINK secured her second VMA trophy, winning "Best K-Pop" for her song "Rockstar."

Chappell Roan was another notable winner, taking home the award for "Best New Artist," joining the ranks of past recipients like Nirvana, Eminem, Olivia Rodrigo, and Billie Eilish.

Eminem also had a successful night, winning "Best Hip-Hop" for his track "Houdini" and "Best Visual Effects" for the same song. SZA took home the award for "Best R&B" with her song "Snooze."

Despite strong nominations, Burna Boy and Ayra Starr did not secure any wins. Ayra Starr was nominated in the "Best Afrobeats" category for her collaboration with Giveon on "Last," but the award went to Tyla for her song Water.
