The United States military has successfully neutralized two fighters from the terrorist group Islamic State in Syria, while wounding another.
This operation, confirmed by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) in a press release on Monday, marks a significant blow to the remnants of the Islamic State's operational capabilities in the region.
The strike targeted a truckload of weapons being transported by the terrorists in the Deir al-Zour province, an area that was previously under the control of the Syrian regime and Russian forces. CENTCOM stated,
"The terrorists were moving a truckload of weapons which were destroyed during the strike."
This development comes in the wake of the recent overthrow of former Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad earlier this month, which has left the region in a state of flux.
Despite the official military victory over the Islamic State announced in 2019, the group's cells remain active, posing ongoing security challenges.
