A 27-year-old man from Bradford, UK, has been arrested and charged for creating and distributing viral videos that captured women without their consent.
These videos, which were filmed during nights out in Manchester, reportedly included content such as upskirting and non-consensual nudity.
The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) launched an investigation following reports of women being followed, filmed, and harassed in the city center.
The suspect's actions have sparked widespread concern, as the videos gained millions of views on platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram, accompanied by numerous misogynistic comments.
A spokesman for GMP noted, "This arrest is thought to be the first in the country linked to videos on social media platforms that appear to film women who are on nights out, some while in vulnerable positions."
Chief Inspector Stephen Wiggins emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, "Everyone has the right to feel safe as they enjoy a night out, and these videos have made people, particularly women, not feel like that, which we can't tolerate."
He further explained that while filming in public is generally legal, it crosses into criminal territory when it involves offenses such as stalking or harassment.
The police have urged anyone affected by these videos to come forward, highlighting the importance of addressing predatory behavior and ensuring public safety.
