The United Kingdom has inaugurated Africa's largest visa application centre in Lagos, Nigeria, through its new commercial partner, VFS Global. This state-of-the-art facility is located in Ikeja and marks a pivotal milestone in enhancing visa services for Nigerian nationals.
The British High Commission in Nigeria announced that residents can now book appointments to submit their visa applications at this new centre, as well as at additional locations in Abuja and Victoria Island, Lagos.
British Deputy High Commissioner Jonny Baxter expressed his delight at the opening, emphasizing Nigeria's importance as one of the UK's key partners. Marc Owen, Director of Visa, Status and Information Services at UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), highlighted that the new centre represents an exciting development in providing world-class UK visa services across Africa.
In the year leading up to June 2024, over 225,000 UK visas were processed for Nigerian nationals, signifying the high demand for travel to the UK from Nigeria.
VFS Global, which has partnered with UKVI since 2003, will offer enhanced services to improve the visa application experience. These include optional services such as document upload assistance, prime time application submission outside business hours, SMS notifications, document checking services, and courier returns of passports once decisions are made. Additionally, applicants in Abuja can utilize an on-demand mobile visa service to submit applications from their preferred locations.
