Four Nigerian students have been sentenced to prison in the United Kingdom following their involvement in a violent altercation in Leicester.
The incident, which took place on November 4, 2021, involved the use of knives and a baseball bat, resulting in an 18-year-old man suffering four stab wounds.
The students, identified as Habib Lawal, Destiny Ojo, Ridwanulahi Raheem, and Joshua Davies-Ero, were convicted after a thorough investigation that included CCTV analysis, phone tracking, and public appeals.
This comprehensive approach led to their identification and subsequent charges.
Destiny Ojo, aged 21 from Plumstead, London, received a seven-year sentence for violent disorder, attempted grievous bodily harm (GBH), and GBH with intent.
Habib Lawal, also 21, from Bexley, London, was sentenced to five years for similar charges.
Ridwanulahi Raheem, 21, from Lambeth, London, was given a three-year sentence for violent disorder and possession of a bladed article, while Joshua Davies-Ero, 21, from Bexley, London, received a two-year sentence for violent disorder.
Detective Constable Sean Downey commented on the gravity of the situation, stating, “This incident highlights the serious danger of violent disorder.
It is extremely fortunate that further injury was not caused to the people involved or to other members of the public who witnessed the incident.”
A fifth individual, Justin Asamoah, aged 22 from Merton, had previously pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article and is scheduled to be sentenced on November 22.
