South African singer Tyla has achieved a remarkable milestone by breaking Beyoncé's record for the most streamed album by a black female artist released in 2024.
Tyla's self-titled debut album amassed an impressive 1.565 billion streams on Spotify, surpassing Beyoncé's 'Cowboy Carter,' which had 1.564 billion streams. This achievement also made Tyla's album the all-time most streamed album by a female African artist.
The lead single from the album, "Water," has garnered nearly a billion streams on Spotify and won the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammy Awards. Despite this success, Tyla's album and its deluxe version were notably absent from the nominations for the 67th Grammys.
Nevertheless, Tyla remains the most awarded African artist of the year, having received 20 awards, including one Grammy, three MTV EMAs, two BET Awards, one MTV VMA, one Billboard Global Force Award, four South African Music Awards, and several others.
