President-elect Donald Trump has publicly criticized President Joe Biden's decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden.
This pardon comes as Hunter faced impending sentencing for evading $1.4 million in taxes and illegal firearm possession while addicted to crack cocaine.
President Biden defended his action by arguing that his son was subjected to "selective, and unfairly, prosecuted."
Reacting to this on Truth Social, Trump questioned, “Does the Pardon given by Joe to Hunter include the J-6 Hostages, who have now been imprisoned for years? Such an abuse and miscarriage of Justice!” This statement refers to individuals involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, an event where Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building, leading to deaths and significant property damage.
Trump, who recently won back the White House, has hinted at issuing mass pardons for over 1,500 defendants related to the Capitol riot.
His transition team also released a statement condemning the Justice Department's actions, accusing it of being weaponized by Democrats.
Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung stated, “The failed witch hunts against President Trump have proven that the Democrat-controlled DOJ and other radical prosecutors are guilty of weaponizing the justice system.”
