United States President-elect Donald Trump is contemplating appointing Richard Grenell, his former intelligence chief, as a special envoy to address the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
This development was reported by ICMNEWS on Saturday, November 23, and marks a key step in Trump's efforts to fulfill his campaign promise of swiftly ending the war.
Grenell, who previously served as Trump's ambassador to Germany and acting director of national intelligence, is seen as a strong candidate due to his extensive experience in international diplomacy.
"Grenell would play a key role in the President-elect’s efforts to stop the war if he is ultimately selected for the post," sources familiar with the transition plans have indicated.
However, it remains uncertain whether Trump will officially create the envoy position or choose someone else for the role. As one source noted, "The US President-elect could ultimately decide not to create a special envoy for the conflict in Ukraine, although he is strongly considering doing so."
This potential appointment is part of Trump's broader strategy to shape his administration's approach to both domestic and international issues.
Alongside these foreign policy considerations, Trump has also been active in forming his cabinet, recently nominating Pam Bondi as Attorney General following Matt Gaetz's withdrawal from consideration for the same position.
