Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers killed two policemen and a driver during an attempted abduction of Mrs. Christy Uroye, the wife of Augustine Uroye, the lawmaker representing Warri South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly.

The incident occurred on Monday night, September 2, 2024, at Okoloba Junction along Jakpa Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

Eyewitnesses reported that the abductors shot dead the three victims as they struggled to kidnap Mrs. Uroye, who was being escorted by the policemen in an SUV.

During their escape attempt, the gunmen's vehicle crashed along the busy road, which led to Mrs. Uroye's rescue. She is currently receiving treatment at a nearby private hospital.

Residents in the area fled the scene to avoid being hit by stray bullets. SP Bright Edafe, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that the operation was "not successful."

He also mentioned that three AK-47 rifles were recovered from the suspects' vehicle. A family source, speaking on condition of anonymity, corroborated the details, adding that the abductors' vehicle got involved in an accident during the escape attempt.
