Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has directed the conversion of filling stations across the nation into Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) outlets.
This initiative was announced by Ekperikpe Ekpo, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), following a federal executive council meeting.
Ekpo emphasized the advantages of CNG, describing it as "safer, more affordable, and environmentally friendly compared to traditional fuels." He highlighted the economic benefits, noting that while a litre of petrol can cost up to N1,000, CNG is available at just N200 per standard cubic meter.
This represents a substantial cost reduction for consumers, offering them a viable alternative to expensive petrol.
To facilitate this transition, the government plans to provide access to vehicle conversion kits, enabling Nigerians to adapt their vehicles to run on CNG.
Ekpo stated, "We are aware that the president has established a presidential committee on CNG, and he has charged us to ensure that most filling stations across the country are converted into CNG stations."
