President Bola Tinubu has directed the Nigerian military to eliminate this menace by the year 2025.
This directive was revealed by the Minister of State for Defense, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, during an address to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at his residence in Gusau.
Matawalle assured that the military is fully committed to executing the President's orders. "The Federal Government has concluded all necessary arrangements to deploy more troops and military equipment to troubled areas in the North-West zone," he stated, emphasizing the government's resolve to restore peace and security in the region.
However, Matawalle highlighted a significant challenge in the fight against banditry: the role of informants within local communities. "The Federal Government and military chiefs are very much disturbed over the issue of informants aiding the bandits," he lamented.
These individuals, motivated by financial gain, are reportedly undermining military efforts by providing critical information to the bandits.
In addition to addressing the issue of informants, Matawalle cautioned politicians against intertwining politics with security matters, warning that such actions could further complicate the situation.
