Tinubu Appoints Shamseldeen Ogunjimi as Acting Accountant General of the Federation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF).

This appointment follows the commencement of pre-retirement leave by the incumbent AGF, Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, who is set to retire on March 7, 2025.

The announcement was made through a press statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. The decision is aimed at consolidating the current administration’s treasury policy reforms and ensuring a seamless transition in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF).

Ogunjimi, a seasoned civil servant with over 30 years of experience in financial management across both public and private sectors, has held pivotal roles such as Director of Funds at the OAGF and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His extensive qualifications include being a chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner, chartered stockbroker and chartered security and investment specialist. He holds a BSc in Accountancy and a Master’s in Finance and Accounting.

President Tinubu expressed his confidence in Ogunjimi’s capabilities, stating, "The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation is pivotal to our nation’s treasury management operations. Mr. Ogunjimi’s wealth of experience and notable competence will ensure the continued effectiveness of this vital institution as we advance our economic reform agenda."

The President also took the opportunity to commend Dr. Madein for her dedication and selfless service to Nigeria during her tenure. Her leadership has been instrumental in steering the nation's financial policies and practices.
