"Those Who Don't Understand are the Loudest" — Akpabio Slams Critics of Tax Reform Bills

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has issued a strong rebuke to critics of President Bola Tinubu’s tax reform initiatives, accusing them of failing to understand the significance of these legislative efforts.

Speaking during President Tinubu’s presentation of the 2025 budget estimate to a joint session of the National Assembly, Akpabio highlighted the transformative potential of the reforms.

"The four tax reform bills the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill, 2024; Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, 2024; Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, 2024; and Nigeria Tax Bill, 2024 represent a monumental shift in our fiscal landscape," Akpabio stated.

He emphasized that these reforms are the first comprehensive tax overhaul since Nigeria’s independence, aiming to rejuvenate small and medium enterprises and enhance the livelihoods of ordinary Nigerians.

Akpabio expressed disappointment at the loud criticism from those he believes have not taken the time to fully understand the bills.

"It is disheartening that those who have not taken the time to understand these bills are the loudest critics," he remarked. He urged all Nigerians, particularly those in public office, to engage thoughtfully with these vital reforms.
