During an investigative public hearing by the Senate Committee on Works, Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has staunchly defended President Bola Tinubu's economic reforms, dismissing critics as "enemies of Nigeria."
Umahi asserted that the opposition to Tinubu's initiatives is driven by jealousy and envy.
Speaking on the sidelines of the hearing, Umahi emphasized the significance of the Lagos-Calabar coastal project, describing it as a "catalyst for the growth of every state in this country."
He argued that the criticism surrounding the project stems from a lack of understanding and envy, stating, "When people stop this suspicion character and digest the coastal road project very well, then they will know it’s a catalyst for the growth of every state in this country."
Umahi praised President Tinubu's long-standing commitment to Nigeria's development, noting, "Mr. President had this dream of making Nigeria better for the past 25 years as a governor and now God has given him the opportunity to serve the country and to actualize his dream so he has no choice than to perform."
He highlighted Tinubu's decision to continue projects initiated by his predecessor as a rare and commendable move among presidents.
Addressing logistical challenges with the coastal road, Umahi explained that the diversion at 16 kilometers was necessary due to an African communication cable from the ocean, which was reconnected at kilometer 26 to avoid past issues.
