Thierry Henry Slams Guardiola For Allowing 3 Players Depart Man City

Major critique have emerged from Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, directed at Manchester City's manager, Pep Guardiola. The criticism centered around Guardiola's decision to allow three key players—Cole Palmer, Riyad Mahrez, and Julian Alvarez—to leave the club. This decision has been scrutinized amid Manchester City's current struggles in the Premier League.

Henry's comments highlights the challenges Guardiola faces as his team endures a difficult period. Manchester City recently suffered a 2-1 defeat against their rivals, Manchester United, marking their eighth loss in the last 12 games across all competitions. This poor run of form has raised questions about the depth and quality of the squad, particularly in the attacking department.

Henry expressed his concerns during an interview with Sky Sports, stating, "We all know, it’s the first time and we’re allowed to say it, that we can challenge his decisions in the way of letting Cole Palmer go, Riyad Mahrez, Julian Alvarez."

He emphasized the impact of these departures on the team's goal-scoring capabilities, noting that while Erling Haaland continues to score, the absence of goals from Mahrez, Alvarez, and others like Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan is palpable.

The French football icon pointed out that Gundogan, who returned to the team, is not replicating his previous goal-scoring form, which once saw him net 17 goals in a season. Henry's critique suggests that the lack of adequate replacements for the departed players has left a void in the squad, contributing to the team's current struggles.

Despite the criticism, Henry did not suggest that Guardiola should resign. In fact, he acknowledged that Guardiola had recently signed a new two-year contract extension, committing to the club until June 2027. This indicates that the club's management still has faith in Guardiola's long-term vision for the team.

The departure of Palmer, Mahrez, and Alvarez has left Manchester City with limited options in attack, placing additional pressure on Haaland to deliver consistently. While Haaland remains a prolific scorer, Henry noted that he has missed several crucial opportunities, further highlighting the need for additional firepower in the squad.
