Legendary French footballer and Arsenal icon, Thierry Henry recently revealed two Premier League players he would have loved to play alongside during his illustrious career.
Despite having played with numerous talented individuals across various clubs and national teams, Henry expressed a particular admiration for Chelsea's Didier Drogba and his compatriot Nicolas Anelka.
Henry's career is marked by remarkable achievements, including winning league titles in England with Arsenal and in Spain with Barcelona, as well as lifting the World Cup with France in 1998. However, he still harbors a sense of what might have been had he shared the pitch with Drogba and Anelka in the Premier League.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Henry elaborated on his admiration for Drogba, saying, "Because of the way he used to play and the way he was. You have two players who I would have loved to play with in the Premier League. Him and Anelka."
He imagined a formidable strike partnership with Drogba, noting their complementary playing styles. "He didn’t like to go too much out of that area and I was more of a mover, a bit everywhere. It would have been a bit of a problem," Henry mused.
While Henry did have the opportunity to play alongside Anelka for the French national team, he lamented not having the chance to form a club-level partnership in the English top flight.
Reflecting on Anelka's impact, Henry praised his compatriot's prowess, stating, "Let’s not forget Anelka was a problem as well, I would have loved to play with Nicolas."
Henry's reflections also touched on Anelka's underappreciated contributions to English football. "We all know that he terrorised teams when he first arrived in England," Henry remarked. "He, for me – people do not mention him as they should mention him. He was one of the best strikers we have ever seen in this league."
Anelka's career saw him achieve success at several clubs, including Arsenal, where he won the Premier League at a young age, and Chelsea, where he continued to excel.
Henry acknowledged Anelka's pivotal role in these successes, emphasizing, "He won it at Arsenal at a young age, when it was very difficult. You had to battle away from home all the time. He did it at Chelsea, he won the league there."
