Governor Alex Otti of Abia State clarified the state's role in the proposed Abia Airport project, emphasizing that it is primarily a federal government initiative.
The governor addressed public concerns regarding the project's ownership and funding, stating unequivocally, "The airport is largely a federal project."
Governor Otti explained that the Abia State Government's involvement is not as a co-owner but rather as a facilitator to ensure the project's successful execution.
"What we did was to intervene to say, ‘Instead of doing this, why don't you do this?’ And if you need us to contribute, we are happy to do so. But it does not mean that we own the project. No," he stated during the December edition of his monthly media briefing, "Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians."
The governor further highlighted the state's advisory role, particularly concerning the optimization of the runway's length, which aims to enhance the project's outcomes.
He reassured the public that the airport project is on track and will be completed as planned, affirming, “Rest assured that the project is going to take off and is going to be delivered.”
