Terrorists have reportedly taken control of Nigeria's largest military training facility, the Nagwamase Military Cantonment, located in Kontagora, Niger State.
This alarming situation was brought to public attention by Abdullahi Isah, a member of the Niger State House of Assembly, during a plenary session on Tuesday, October 29.
According to Isah, the assailants have established at least eight camps around the cantonment, posing a severe security threat to nearby communities in both Kontagora and Mariga local government areas.
"This military camp is now known to have been taken over by terrorists who are said to have established at least eight different camps in the area," Isah stated, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
The presence of these terrorist camps has forced approximately 23 farming communities to flee, exacerbating the region's insecurity.
In response to this crisis, the Niger State House of Assembly has urged the State Government to collaborate closely with military authorities to expel the terrorists and facilitate the safe return of displaced residents.
The Assembly emphasized that such action is crucial for restoring stability and ensuring the safety of affected regions.
