Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has reassured taxpayers that their contributions will be directed towards initiatives that foster economic development rather than being squandered on frivolous expenditures.
This commitment was articulated during the commissioning of the second phase of the upgraded and rehabilitated road network in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area.
Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the pivotal role of transportation infrastructure in driving economic progress. "As we all know, transportation infrastructure is the backbone of any thriving economy," he stated.
"In Lagos State, we recognize that every aspect of our social and economic life depends on an efficient, reliable, and sustainable transportation network."
The governor highlighted the administration's THEMES+ Agenda, which prioritizes transportation and traffic management as critical components of the state's development strategy. "When we envisioned the Greater Lagos dream, we set out to build a state that is safe, clean, and prosperous—a place where opportunities abound, and the quality of life continues to improve for all residents," Sanwo-Olu explained.
He acknowledged the challenges posed by traffic congestion and flooding, noting that these issues have been significant impediments to realizing the state's vision. "One of the biggest impediments to realizing this vision was the man-hours lost in traffic congestion and the persistent challenges of flooding in certain areas. These were issues we could not ignore," he remarked.
Sanwo-Olu urged residents to take ownership of the newly completed projects by avoiding actions that could undermine their durability, such as indiscriminate waste disposal into drainage systems or illegal parking on roadways. "Our administration’s THEMES+ Agenda placed transportation and traffic management as a critical priority," he added, showng the importance of community involvement in maintaining infrastructure.
