Syrian Rebel Leader Al-Sharaa Declares Exhaustion in Conflict with Israel Following Destruction of Syrian Air Defenses

Syrian rebel leader Ahmad al-Sharaa, also known as Abu Mohammed al-Julani, has expressed the exhaustion of his forces in continuing any conflict with Israel.

This statement comes after Israel's recent military operations that targeted and destroyed key Syrian air defenses.

Speaking to a Syrian TV news channel, Al-Sharaa emphasized, "We are too exhausted to fight Israel," highlighting the toll that years of civil war have taken on Syria.

The rebel leader, who spearheaded the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad, noted that the focus should now be on reconstruction and stability rather than further conflict.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) recently launched a major operation aimed at dismantling Syria's strategic military capabilities, including chemical weapons sites, missiles, and air defenses.

This move was intended to prevent these assets from falling into hostile hands, according to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He stated, "The IDF bombed military strategic capabilities left by the Syrian military of the ousted Assad regime so that they won’t fall into the hands of the jihadists."

Al-Sharaa criticized the previous Assad regime for its corrupt practices, describing it as managing Syria like a "farm" and enriching itself at the expense of the nation. He assured that documents would soon be released to expose the regime's "enormous theft."

Despite the tensions, Al-Sharaa hinted at seeking "diplomatic solutions" to avert regional escalation, urging the international community to respect Syrian sovereignty and avoid further military adventures. He acknowledged the need to abandon the "revolutionary mentality" and focus on establishing modern institutions and the rule of law in post-war Syria.

Israel, on its part, has maintained that its actions were defensive and temporary, aimed at ensuring security along its frontier.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi reiterated, "We are not interfering with what’s happening in Syria. We have no intention of running Syria."
