Switch Off Your Light, Let's Learn to Manage - Tinubu tell Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu called on Nigerians to adopt energy-saving practices as a means to manage rising electricity costs.

The president emphasized the importance of self-regulation in energy consumption, particularly by switching off unnecessary lights to reduce electricity bills.

During the session, President Tinubu remarked, “It’s not negative to learn to manage. You learn to control your electricity bill, switch off the light, let’s learn to manage.”

This advice comes in the wake of significant economic reforms under his administration, including the removal of fuel subsidies and an increase in electricity tariffs.

Earlier this year, on April 3, the Nigerian electricity regulator raised tariffs for customers classified under Band A, increasing the rate from N66 to N225 per kilowatt-hour.

This decision has been met with widespread criticism due to the additional financial burden it places on citizens.

Despite the backlash, President Tinubu remains firm in his stance against price controls, stating, “I don’t believe in price control, we will work hard to supply the market.” His administration is focused on modernizing Nigeria's economy, aiming to eliminate colonial-era economic structures and implement comprehensive tax reforms.
