Swedish Police Drop Rape Investigation Involving Kylian Mbappe Due to Lack of Evidence

Swedish authorities have officially closed an investigation into allegations of rape and sexual assault involving Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe.

The decision was announced by Swedish prosecutor Marina Chirakova, who cited "insufficient evidence" as the reason for dropping the case.

The 25-year-old French football star was reportedly in Stockholm from October 9 to 11, following his exclusion from a Nations League match. During this visit, an alleged incident occurred at a high-end hotel on October 10, which led to the investigation.

Although the Swedish prosecution authority initially refrained from naming the suspect, several media outlets, including Aftonbladet and Expressen, identified Mbappe as the individual involved.

"My assessment is that the evidence is not sufficient to proceed, and the investigation is therefore closed," stated Prosecutor Chirakova.

She further clarified that Mbappe had "not been notified of suspicion of a crime." Mbappe, expressing his dismay, told French television show Clique, "I haven't received anything, no summons... I'm not involved." He described his shock upon learning about the allegations through media reports.

The complaint was filed on October 12 after the alleged victim sought medical attention.

According to reports, police collected clothing items as evidence, including women's underwear and black apparel.

Despite these efforts, the evidence did not meet the threshold required for prosecution.
