Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore has announced plans to lead a nationwide protest against the judiciary's handling of the case involving human rights activist Dele Farotimi. This protest is scheduled to take place on December 10, 2024, and aims to highlight perceived injustices in Farotimi's detention.
Dele Farotimi was arrested by officers of the Ekiti State Police Command on charges of defaming Aare Afe Babalola SAN, the founder of Afe Babalola University, through his book titled "Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System." Following his arrest, Farotimi was remanded in prison until December 10, after appearing at the Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti.
The protest organized by Sowore will occur at several key locations: Afe Babalola Chambers in Lagos, the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja, the Police Headquarters in Ekiti, and King's College Campus in London. Sowore emphasized the importance of this movement by quoting, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
