Senators from Nigeria's South-South geopolitical zone expressed strong support for President Bola Tinubu's Tax Reform Bills, which were recently presented to the National Assembly.
These reforms are seen as crucial for enhancing national revenue and ensuring economic stability across the country.
The South-South Senators’ Forum, representing Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Edo, Cross River, Delta, and Rivers States, emphasized the importance of these reforms.
"We are committed to a comprehensive evaluation of the bills to ensure they align with national interests, particularly the well-being of the South-South region," stated Senator Seriake Dickson, Chairman of the Forum.
In their statement, the senators urged regional governors to collaborate with lawmakers to refine the bills for mutual benefit.
They also passed a vote of confidence in Senate President Godswill Akpabio, commending his leadership in advancing the Senate’s constitutional mandate.
The Forum called for legislative processes that transcend regional, ethnic, or tribal biases, advocating for robust interactions and consultations.
