Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State presented an ambitious budget proposal of N526.88 billion for the 2025 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly.
Dubbed the "Transformational and Infrastructural Budget," this proposal shows a strong commitment to long-term development, with a significant 66% of the budget, amounting to N349.4 billion, earmarked for capital projects.
Governor Aliyu emphasized the importance of education in the state's future, allocating approximately 25% of the total budget to this sector.
This focus reflects the administration's dedication to enhancing educational infrastructure and resources. The governor stated, “Education is the cornerstone of our development strategy, and we are committed to investing in our future generations.”
In addition to education, the budget addresses recurrent expenditures, which include the implementation of a new minimum wage of N70,000 for state workers starting January 2025.
Governor Aliyu assured civil servants of this change, saying, “I am delighted to announce that we will implement the new minimum wage of N70,000 from January 2025.”
