Nigerian singer Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, popularly known as Skales, in a recent episode of the 'Listen' podcast expressed strong criticism towards fellow artists who neglect local media in favor of foreign platforms.
He described such actions as "crazy," emphasizing the importance of supporting local media which has massively contributed to the growth of many artists.
Skales stated, "Any artiste that ignores the local media is really crazy because this is our own. Tearing down our own to go build foreigners’ own. Foreigners that don’t care about us."
He further highlighted that without the foundational support from local media, these artists might not have gained the recognition they currently enjoy on international stages.
Skales also pointed out the ingratitude of some artists who publicly distance themselves from afrobeats after benefiting from the genre, warning against undermining the very foundations that have supported their careers.
