The Nigerian government, through Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru, has reiterated its commitment to ending insecurity in the Southeast and across Nigeria.
This statement was made during an operational visit to Enugu, where Badaru addressed military officers, emphasizing the importance of a secure environment for business growth and peace. He urged the military to intensify their efforts against regional insecurity, highlighting that significant progress had been made over the past year.
He confirms that President Bola Tinubu is determined to tackle insecurity not only in the Southeast but nationwide. The arrest of Simon Ekpa, a self-proclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra, in Finland on terrorism-related charges, shows the government's focus on addressing security challenges. Ekpa has been accused of sponsoring terrorism in the Southeast through the enforcement of sit-at-home orders and activities of unknown gunmen.
Minister Badaru's visit also included a meeting with Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, where he expressed gratitude for the governor's support of military operations. This intergovernmental cooperation is seen as crucial in enhancing military effectiveness in combating threats.
