Nigerian singer and songwriter, Seyi Vibez, has recently made headlines following his decision to part ways with his record label boss, Dapper. This pivotal move marks the beginning of his independent music journey.
The split was confirmed when fans noticed that Seyi Vibez had unfollowed Dapper on Instagram, deleted all his pictures, and updated his bio to "Independent artist." Similarly, Dapper also unfollowed Seyi Vibez, indicating a mutual severance.
Seyi Vibez, whose real name is Balogun Afolabi Oluwaloseyi, has been a prominent figure in the Nigerian music scene since his debut in 2019 with the single "Anybody."
He gained widespread popularity in 2021 with the release of his hit single "Godsent" and his debut studio album "No Seyi No Vibez (NSNV)." His second studio album, "Billion Dollar Baby," further solidified his place in the industry, featuring the breakthrough single "Chance (Na Ham)."
The decision to go independent comes after a series of successful releases and collaborations. In 2023, Seyi Vibez released his debut Extended Play (EP) "Memory Card," which garnered over 6.30 million streams in its first week. He also collaborated with fellow Nigerian star Zlatan on the track "Let There Be Light," which debuted at No. 14 on Apple Music's top 100 Nigeria chart.
In August 2023, he was announced as the brand ambassador for Cardtonic, a leading gift card exchange platform in Nigeria and Ghana. Additionally, he won the Best Street-Hop Artiste award at the 16th Headies Award in September 2023.
Despite the split, Seyi Vibez remains optimistic about his future. He continues to engage with his fans through social media, sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses of his life and music-making process. His dedication to his craft and desire to push boundaries suggest that his independent journey will be filled with more exceptional music and groundbreaking projects.
