Seyi Tinubu’s Governorship Bid Is A Divine Call, Not A Crime — Nigerian Youth Coalition

The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL) has announced its strong support for Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, to run for the governorship of Lagos State in the upcoming 2027 elections.

This endorsement comes amidst ongoing debates about the intersection of political legacy and meritocracy in Nigeria.

In a statement released by CONYL, the youth organization emphasized that Seyi Tinubu's candidacy is not only a constitutional right but also a "divine call."

Comrade Goodluck Ibem, President General of CONYL, stated, "The call by Nigerian youths for him to contest for the office of the governor of Lagos State in 2027 is a divine call and a responsibility on his shoulder which he cannot shy away from."

The coalition dismissed criticisms regarding Seyi Tinubu’s eligibility, which have been primarily based on his familial ties to the current president. "Seyi Tinubu, as a Nigerian citizen, has the right to vote and be voted for, irrespective of his parentage," the statement read.

Drawing parallels to religious succession, the group argued that just as church leaders pass their ministries to their children, Seyi should not be denied the opportunity to lead due to his family background.

CONYL praised Seyi Tinubu as "ebullient, articulate, and very intelligent," urging President Tinubu to support his son's gubernatorial ambitions. "We call on all lovers of democracy to rally round Chief Seyi Tinubu, who is very prepared, equipped, and ready to take Lagos State to an enviable height come 2027," the coalition added.
