Guyanese-American rapper and singer, Saint Jhn, has firmly denied allegations that his latest afro-themed single, "Humble," was influenced by Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema.
The controversy arose after a fan took to social media platform X, asserting, "I hear Rema’s influence on the new Saint Jhn."
In response, Saint Jhn, whose real name is Carlos St. John Phillips, clarified his stance, stating, "Nah, he’s dope.
But I haven’t heard enough to be influenced." He acknowledged Rema's talent but emphasized that he hasn't listened to his music extensively enough to draw inspiration from it.
Saint Jhn, best known for the 2019 remix of his 2016 song "Roses," which topped charts globally, including in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada, continues to make waves in the music industry.
His third studio album, "While the World Was Burning," released in November 2020, further solidified his reputation.
Additionally, he has penned songs for notable artists such as Kanye West, Usher, and Jidenna.
The artist is signed to HITCO and is a founding member of the music collective Gødd Complexx.
Despite the recent claims, Saint Jhn remains focused on his unique musical journey, undeterred by comparisons or assumptions about his influences.
