Russia on Saturday announced a major breakthrough, recapturing another village in eastern Ukraine.
"The settlement of Zhelan First (Zhelan Pershe in Ukrainian) has been liberated thanks to the active and decisive actions of our southern troops," the defence ministry said. The village is in the Pokrovsk region, a key logistics center for the Ukrainian military.
Russian forces have been advancing rapidly in the eastern Donetsk region in recent weeks, putting pressure on Ukrainian forces that are short on soldiers and weapons. The Kremlin regularly claims that its military has captured small villages in eastern Ukraine.
In a rarer announcement, it said Tuesday that it had captured a town in the region, called Krasnogorivka. On August 6, the Ukrainian army began invasion of the Russian border area of the Cruch, promoting kilometers in Russian territory and capturing dozens of colonies.
He hopes to force Moscow to transfer the Donetsu for the army to Cruch, and to make Donetsu's Russian move forward. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said Friday that Kiev had "slowed down" Russian advances.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said last week that his top priority was to seize Ukraine's eastern Donbass, an industrial basin that includes the towns of Donetsk and Luhansk.
