Veteran Nigerian rapper Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, popularly known as Ruggedman, has publicly urged the Tinubu-led Federal Government to address the severe economic hardships facing the country.
This appeal came in response to the backlash against Nigerian musician David Adeleke, also known as Davido, who had criticized the government's handling of the economy during a podcast in the United States. Davido remarked, "It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles," expressing his concerns about the state of Nigeria's economy.
Ruggedman defended Davido, stating that the attacks on him by government personnel and supporters were unwarranted. He emphasized that instead of focusing on Davido's comments, the government should prioritize fixing the country's economic issues.
Ruggedman wrote on his X handle, "Ok Davido has said what he said, moving forward the government should fix Nigeria so nobody will say such again. All this barking all over the place is not fixing the nation. The hardship is too much."
Bashir Ahmad, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and former Senior Special Assistant on Digital Communication to former President Muhammadu Buhari, criticized Davido's remarks as unpatriotic, suggesting that public figures should act as good ambassadors for Nigeria.
Despite this criticism, Ruggedman maintained that addressing the nation's economic challenges was more important than attacking individuals who speak out about them.
