Newly appointed manager of Manchester United, Ruben Amorim has candidly addressed the club's fans, preparing them for challenging times ahead.
Officially announced as Erik ten Hag's successor earlier this month, the 39-year-old Portuguese coach is set to face a formidable task at Old Trafford.
Amorim acknowledged the weight of history associated with Manchester United, stating, "It's Manchester United, you feel the weight of history despite the last few years and you want to be part of it."
Amorim's first test will be an away match against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Sunday. Despite the daunting challenge, he remains optimistic about implementing his philosophy within the team and the club.
However, he cautioned supporters not to expect immediate miracles, emphasizing the enormity of the responsibility: "There will be very difficult moments, but I really believe we will succeed."
As United's sixth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013, Amorim is aware of the high expectations and the scrutiny that comes with the role.
He expressed confidence in his ability to lead the club back to the top of English football, saying, "Call me naive. But I truly believe I am the right guy in the right moment." Yet, he also acknowledged the pressure to deliver results quickly, noting, "I know if you are at Manchester United you have to win games."
Amorim's approach will focus on adapting the team's style of play, potentially reviving players like Victor Lindelof, who may thrive under his preferred three-man defense system. Despite the challenges, Amorim is determined to make his mark at Manchester United, asserting, "In two years, you will understand if I am the right man to be in this process."
