The Arewa Youths Initiative for Energy Reforms (AYIFER) made a public appeal to the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), urging them to prioritize the revitalization of the Kaduna Refinery.
This call to action was directed at NNPCL's Chief Executive Officer, Mallam Mele Kyari, with the aim of ensuring that the refinery is upgraded to meet global standards.
Bashir Al’Amin, the National Coordinator of AYIFER, emphasized the importance of this initiative by referencing the successful rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt refinery and the establishment of the Dangote Refinery in Lagos.
He stated, “We are calling on Malam Mele Kyari to expedite action on the Kaduna refinery so we can be at par with other regions in the country.”
The group highlighted the necessity of a balanced distribution of petroleum products across Nigeria, advocating for a fully functional petrochemical refinery rather than a simple blending plant.
Al’Amin cautioned against any actions that might tarnish Kyari’s reputation, saying, “Kyari should resist any temptation that could make him do something that can jeopardize his good image.”
