Nigerian singer, Joe El Amadi recently candidly discussed the challenges he has faced in his music career due to his striking resemblance to fellow artist 2Baba.
During an appearance on the 'Hoha' podcast, Joe El revealed that this resemblance has led to massive setbacks, as some music executives and media figures have denied him access to their platforms.
He recounted specific instances where presenters at Cool FM and Sound City, as well as an event planner at Festac Carnival in 2013, refused to feature him solely because of his likeness to 2Baba.
Joe El shared, "The downsides of 2Baba comparisons almost broke me down. Some presenters at Cool FM and Sound City, and an event planner at Festac Carnival 2013, denied me access to their platforms for looking like 2Baba."
He further explained that a Sound City presenter once confronted him at Club Rumours, boasting about instructing others not to play his songs because he was perceived as mimicking 2Face.
Despite these challenges, Joe El noted that public acceptance began to grow after he collaborated with 2Baba on the song ‘Hold On’ in 2015. Reflecting on his departure from Kennis Music after 12 years, he simply stated, "The contract was over."
