Reps to Hold Special Session on Tinubu's Tax Bills for Economic Reform


The House of Representatives has scheduled a special session for Tuesday to discuss four pivotal tax bills.


These bills, collectively referred to as Tinubu's tax bills, include the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, the Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill.


The announcement was made by Deputy Speaker Ben Kalu following a lengthy closed-door meeting.


The proposed legislation aims to streamline tax administration and enhance revenue services, with the broader goal of improving governmental efficiency and fostering economic growth.


"We will have a special session over the tax bill on Tuesday," stated Deputy Speaker Kalu. "This conversation is going to continue from now till Tuesday when we will invite these resource persons to be here to engage us.


Thereafter we will decide which way to go."


These bills have already passed a second reading in the Senate, indicating their progression through the legislative process.


The reforms have sparked considerable debate within Nigerian political and economic circles, reflecting their potential impact on the nation's fiscal landscape.
