The Minority Caucus of Nigeria's House of Representatives has called for compensation and rehabilitation for minors who were detained for three months following their participation in the #EndBadGovernance protest.
The caucus, led by Rep. Kingsley Chinda, is demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the detention, which they have described as "despicable, callous, and inhumane."
The detained minors faced charges of terrorism, reasonable felony, and arson, but the Caucus argues that their prolonged detention was unjust.
They commend President Tinubu for facilitating the release of these youths but emphasize the need for accountability. "Anyone involved in detaining the youths for 95 days—a time they could have spent pursuing their education or vocations—should be held accountable," the Caucus stated.
The representatives are advocating for therapeutic support and medical care to help the affected youths reintegrate with their families.
They also stress the importance of reparation packages to alleviate the emotional and financial hardships endured by the minors and their families during the period of unlawful incarceration.
