Reps Confirms Oluyede as New Army Chief

The House of Representatives has confirmed Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff.

This confirmation followed a report from the House Joint Committee on Defence and Army, which was presented by Babajimi Benson, the committee chairman.

President Bola Tinubu had initially appointed Oluyede in an acting capacity in October, following the illness of the former army chief, Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away on November 5, 2024.

During his screening, Oluyede emphasized his extensive experience in national security, having served at senior operational and management levels within the Nigerian Army over the past five years.

He expressed his commitment to addressing Nigeria's security challenges and working collaboratively with the National Assembly and other stakeholders to bring lasting peace to the country.

Oluyede, who was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1992 and rose to the rank of major general in September 2020, described his nomination as a "privileged opportunity" to lead the Nigerian Army and implement positive changes.
