‘Reason I Don’t Want to Use My Unique Voice Anymore’ – Singer, Bella Shmurda

Nigerian Afrobeats singer Bella Shmurda has revealed his intention to experiment with a new sound, potentially moving away from his distinctive voice.

Shmurda, who gained widespread recognition with his 2020 hit "Vision 2020," has been consistent with his unique vocal style since then. However, he now feels the need to evolve.

As he stated, “I know I have a unique voice but I don’t want to be using it anymore. I want to try a new sound.” This decision is driven by his desire to appeal to a broader audience, reflecting a strategic move to expand his reach.

This trend of altering musical styles is not new in the Nigerian music industry. Prominent artists like Wizkid, Davido, Rema, Fireboy DML, and Ayra Starr have previously modified their sounds to attract global listeners.

For instance, Wizkid's 2017 Caribbean-themed project, ‘Sounds From The Other Side,’ marked a pivotal departure from his earlier works. Similarly, Davido attempted a sound change with his 2018 EP ‘Son Of Mercy,’ although he later reverted to his authentic Afrobeats style after the project did not meet his expectations.
