Real Madrid Star Karim Benzema Contemplates Retirement at Season's End

Karim Benzema, the illustrious former Real Madrid striker, is reportedly considering hanging up his boots at the conclusion of the current season.

The 36-year-old Frenchman, who currently plays for Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, has been a pivotal figure in the sport, known for his exceptional skills and goal-scoring prowess.

Benzema's potential retirement marks the end of an era for a player who has left an indelible mark on the game.

During his 14-year tenure with Real Madrid from 2009 to 2023, he amassed an impressive collection of accolades, including five UEFA Champions League titles, four La Liga championships, and three Copa del Rey victories. His crowning achievement came in 2022 when he was awarded the prestigious Ballon d'Or, cementing his status as one of the world's best strikers.

According to reports from Spanish outlet Relevo, Benzema is contemplating retirement due to the physical and mental demands of playing in the Middle East. "The evening training sessions in Saudi Arabia, necessitated by the intense sun, have taken a toll," sources close to the player revealed.

Despite his contract with Al-Ittihad running until 2026, there is speculation that Benzema may choose to retire earlier than expected. Al-Ittihad, while keen to see Benzema honor his contract, would not be displeased if he decided to leave in 2025, as it would free up his substantial salary of approximately €100 million.

However, Benzema's departure could come sooner, allowing him to pursue a new role with his beloved Real Madrid.

An agreement is reportedly in place for Benzema to return to Real Madrid as an ambassador, a position that would see him represent the club in the Arab region.

This move aligns with Benzema's desire to remain connected to the sport and contribute to the global profile of Los Blancos. Despite the challenges faced in his first season at Al-Ittihad, where he struggled to adapt under managers Nuno Espírito Santo and Marcelo Gallardo, Benzema has found his form in his second season.

Under the guidance of a fellow countryman, he has scored 10 goals and provided three assists in just 10 Saudi Pro League matches, proving his enduring talent.
