American rapper and singer-songwriter, Wiz Khalifa, has recently shared his perspective on relationships, advocating for a decade-long courtship before marriage.
Speaking on the Club Shay Shay podcast, the 37-year-old artist, who is a father of two, elaborated on why he believes that couples should date for at least ten years before tying the knot.
According to Wiz, this extended period allows partners to truly understand each other and their families, providing a solid foundation for a successful marriage.
Wiz Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, emphasized the importance of knowing the person you plan to marry, as well as their family dynamics.
He stated, "People should date for 10 years before getting married because that's long enough to know the person, their family, and who you're going to deal with when you move in together." This insight reflects his belief that a deep understanding of one's partner and their background is crucial for a lasting relationship.
The rapper's views are informed by his own experiences in love and marriage. Wiz was previously married to model Amber Rose. The couple began dating in early 2011, got engaged on March 1, 2012, and were married on July 8, 2013.
They welcomed their son, Sebastian Taylor Thomas, in February 2013. However, their marriage faced challenges, leading to a divorce in 2014 due to irreconcilable differences. By 2016, their union was officially dissolved.
Currently, Wiz Khalifa is in a relationship with Aimee Aguilar, his girlfriend of five years. The couple recently celebrated the arrival of their daughter, further strengthening their bond.
This personal journey may have influenced Wiz's perspective on the importance of taking time to build a strong relationship before committing to marriage.
During the podcast, Wiz also addressed the topic of cohabitation before marriage. He noted that whether couples should live together before getting married depends on individual circumstances.
"Some people move in right away and still need time to figure it out. If you don’t move in right away, you’ll learn that there’s one version of the person when you’re not sharing things and a different version when you are," he explained. This highlights the complexities of living together and how it can reveal different aspects of a person's character.
