The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, declared that cursing individuals online is now considered cyberbullying and constitutes a criminal offense.
This statement was made public through a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Friday.
Adejobi emphasized, "Raining direct curses on someone online is cyberbullying, not an expression of freedom or criticism.
And cyberbullying, which is even different from defamation, is a criminal offence and punishable. Be guided."
The declaration has ignited discussions across social media platforms, with many users expressing their disagreement. Critics have pointed to a previous tweet by Adejobi in 2022, where he stated that "mere words of mouth do not constitute any offense," highlighting a perceived inconsistency in his stance.
